Liberty is truly the one that got away. Originally placed with a close friend of mine, she was given an incredible start. Her first owner—who runs Muttropolitan, a fantastic dog boarding, grooming, and training boutique in Tacoma, WA—did an exceptional job raising her. At just six months old, Liberty returned to me due to unforeseen family circumstances. What I got back was an incredibly well-adjusted, well-started young dog with a solid foundation in training and a wonderful temperament. From the moment she came back, I regretted not keeping her from the start. She was everything I hope to produce in a working dog: biddable, driven, clear-headed, and beautifully structured. I had every intention of keeping her, but around that time, some friends of ours—who were looking for their first dog and lived just down the road—expressed interest in her. It seemed like the perfect setup: a fantastic home, a one-dog household, and close enough for me to stay involved. We agreed on a co-ownership, with the clear understanding that Liberty would play a key role in the future of our breeding program. She was doing wonderfully in training, but despite our best efforts and extended timelines, the titles we had hoped for didn’t materialize. After much consideration, I made the decision to breed Liberty to Creed in April 2024, so we had June puppies! It was a pairing I had been planning, and it did not disappoint—she produced an absolutely phenomenal litter. The results of that breeding speak for themselves. We retained one of her daughters here, and co-own two more from that litter. Liberty passed on so many of the qualities we value in our program—clarity, temperament, and workability. The three daughters we have from her are promising, and we have high hopes for what they’ll each bring to the future of our kennel. I believe Liberty(Ellie) is still working towards her PDC with her co owners and I hope to see them obtain that in the near future!
